Breaking news... our first cria of the year!
This just in: Clearview's Bella-Rocka has birthed her 2008 cria!  She birthed the cria all on her own in the barn.  As soon as I got there, I sent the rest of the alpacas out of the barn and into the paddock.  The cria was already on her feet.  Yes, that's right, HER feet.  It looks like our 2008 birthing season has started with a GIRL.  Out of Westwool's Fredrico (a full accoyo), we now have a female cria.  At first glance, she appears to be light fawn.
She has started nursing, too.  So far, everything looks okay.  Later this evening, I will be posting photos and a birth weight.

Update: birth weight looks to be 14lbs, though we really need to get a proper sling to weigh her with.  We're keeping her warm with a cozy dog-coat, as it is still quite  nippy outside.  I calculated Bella's gestation, and the cria was born at 356 days - right on schedule.
